Everything you need to know before your child's first lesson.
What age can my child start chess lessons?
We welcome kids aged 5–16, from absolute beginners to advanced tournament players. If your child can sit through a story, they're ready for their first chess lesson.
Does my child need to know how to play chess already?
Not at all — complete beginners are very welcome. Coach Kheminda will have them moving pieces confidently in their very first lesson, and our Monday 6:30pm class is built especially for new and growing players.
What are the fees for chess lessons?
Lessons are $25 per hour, paid week to week — and your child's very first lesson is completely free. There's nothing to pay up front: come along, try a class, and only continue if your child loves it.
Can we join mid-term?
Yes — new students are welcome any week of the term. Classes are small and Coach Kheminda works with each child at their own level, so your child simply picks up from wherever they are. Book a free first lesson for whichever week suits you.
Where are the classes held?
At Bunjil Place (Boon Wurrung & Wurundjeri Room), 2 Patrick NE Dr, Narre Warren — an easy trip from Berwick, Cranbourne, Clyde, Hampton Park and right across Melbourne's South East, with plenty of parking.
When do the classes run?
Mondays 5:00–6:00pm (advanced) and 6:30–7:30pm (beginner/intermediate), Tuesdays 6:30–7:30pm (intermediate), and Thursdays 5:00–6:00pm (intermediate/advanced).
Who teaches the classes?
Coach Kheminda — a registered Victorian Teacher and national-level chess player who has coached hundreds of Melbourne kids from their very first move through to tournament wins.
